Built In Shelf Styling

I tend to gravitate towards a more minimalist theme when it comes to styling your open shelving.

Step 1: Ditch the Clutter!

If you already have your shelves somewhat styled, our first step is to take everything off. I like to have a separate table to set my items on so I can start with a totally clean slate.

Step 2: Choose a Theme

When I style my shelves, I like to start by choosing a color scheme. For our office built-ins, I went with a fairly neutral theme.

Step 3: Group Like Items

Remember  that extra table we pulled out? You'll use it to group like items together. You'll take your vases, frames, books, links, orbs, arches, risers (we'll talk about those in a bit), large/medium/small objects, and greenery

Step 4: Large Items and Leaners

Now, we'll create anchors. These will be our largest items and objects. For our office built-ins, I decided to use 'anchors' on the top shelves. You'll want your anchors to be the same items such as large vases, large bowls, or baskets

Step 5:  Start Layering

Now that we have our large items and anchors in place, we'll start to layer in medium and small items and objects.

Step 6: Perfecting and Re-arranging

Our last step is to step back and evaluate the situation. Do we need to add or subtract anything? Do our shelves feel balanced?
