Road Trips with Toddlers - Our Travel Must Haves

This post about road trips with toddlers was kindly sponsored by Regalo Baby, a brand we have loved and used for years!  All thoughts and opinions are 100% our own.  Thank you for supporting the brands that make our blog possible!

Summer time means road trip season!  We are super lucky to live close to so many awesome places to visit here in Oregon.  The beach and the mountain are a quick day trip for us, but sometimes it's nice to make a long weekend out of the trip and stay overnight.  Now that the girls are a little older, we are planning on lots more overnight road trips with them.

On our bucket list this summer is an overnight Hood River trip, a Bend trip, and an overnight beach trip!  We always head to Cannon Beach for the day, but we are planning on an overnight stay this summer.  I wanted to put together our must haves for road trips with toddlers.  We travel quite a bit by plane and these items would work for both!

Road Trips with Toddlers - Our Travel Must Haves

15 must have travel items for road trips with toddlers

one / two / three / four / five / six / seven / eight / nine / ten / eleven / twelve / thirteen / fourteen / fifteen

One - Regalo Baby Easy Diner Hook on Chair.  We have been using this chair for over a year now and we can't live without it!  We take it to dinner with us and Madi loves sitting in it at home too.  It would be great for traveling especially not knowing if where you are staying has a high chair.  It's super compact and folds up into a bag so it's perfect for travel!

Two - Wiki Stix.  We first used these in Hawaii (see our Hawaii travel post here) and they are the perfect travel activity because there is no mess!  I love this travel pack with an activity book.  These keep my girls busy for quite a while!

Three - Munchkin Sippy Cups.  We try not to give the girls juice other than for a special treat, so we love packing these sippy cips (that don't leak!) to refill with water.

Four - Snacks, snacks, and more snacks.  Applesauce is a great go to when traveling because it doesn't need to be refrigerated and it's not messy (plus it gets them a fruit on the road).  We also like to pack Pirate's Booty, cracker snack mixes (to keep them interested), fruit snacks as a treat, yogurt that has been frozen, and carrot sticks.

Five - Road trip scavenger hunt cards.  These would be perfect for a long road trip to keep everyone entertained!

Six - Play Packs.  We usually get these in the Target dollar section, but found them in bulk on Amazon.  I like to bring these when we go out to dinner for the girls.  These are great to throw in your diaper bag in case of "emergency".  If you ended up buying them in bulk, they are also cute party favors if you have a lot left over.

Seven - Fold up coloring tray.  This is perfect for travel since everything fits inside.  My girls could color for hours, so this would keep them occupied.

Eight - Regalo Baby Portable My Cot.  These are great for hotel rooms when you aren't quite sure what the sleeping arrangements will be like.  The girls love these!  They would be great for sleepovers as well.  They pack up into a small bag and come with a sheet!

Nine - Munchkin snack cup.  We love love love these for travel (and really every day).  Crackers tend to get all over the car and these help contain them.

Ten - Melissa and Doug invisible coloring book.  No mess markers.  Enough said!

Eleven - Wet Ones.  We love these for cleaning up all the messes that happen with toddlers.  We keep a tube of them in our car at all times!

Twelve - Activity Tray.  This is perfect for road trips.  It fits right over the car seat and contains all their activities.

Thirteen - More snacks!  The girls love these yogurt raisins.  They are really chewy so it takes them a while to eat them.

Fourteen - Melissa and Doug triangle crayons.  These are easy to grip and they don't break!

Fifteen - Regalo Baby Portable Play Yard.  We used this all last summer when Madi was just at a year.  It was perfect to contain her when she was just starting to walk all over.  We took it with us to the pool and the beach and it worked great.  Plus, it packs up into a small pack that you can carry on your shoulder!

Road Trip Activity

I have super fun road trip activity for you to take a long on your next trip!  The girls absolutely loved this scavenger hunt, and got so excited to check things off the list.  I've created this as a free printable, so you can print this off for your next adventure.  Just click here to save it as a PDF to print.  We took ours into our local FedEx and had them laminate them so we could use dry erase markers.

Our Favorite Travel Items - Double for Use at Home

All of these items work great for use at our home as well.  The girls love their Regalo Baby Portable Cots for lounging and movie nights.  I can see them using these a lot in the next couple of years.  The My Cot works for children up to 75 pounds and is ideal for ages 2-5.  These would be perfect for camping too!  We aren't big campers, but never say never!

Regalo Baby makes an amazing hook on chair that we've been using the heck out of over the last year or so.  The Easy Diner chair holds children up to 37 pounds, and folds up so you can easily take it with you on the go.  We got rid of our high chair almost six months ago because it took up too much space!  Madison doesn't like using high chairs when we're out at restaurants, so this works perfectly.  We have traveled quit a bit over the last couple of years with the girls and I hate getting to our hotel only to find that they have no where for babies to sit to eat.  This happened to us in Hawaii and it was a huge pain.  The Easy Diner would be great to pack in your car for a road trip to make dining on the go a breeze.
