One of our favorite things to do with the girls is go to the beach! Our favorite beach on the Oregon Coast is Cannon Beach. If you are ever in Oregon, you have to check it out. Cannon Beach is so darling and there are so many cute little shops and restaurants to check out. Our favorite is Public Coast Brewing and Bruce's Candy Kitchen (the cutest pink and white stripe wall!). We typically only ever go to the beach for a day trip and leave around 9AM and get there around 11:30AM.
I try to usually park where you can access the beach and the little town so you don't have to get in the car and move to another spot. The girls always play in the sand for about two hours and eat a late lunch and walk around the town. We pack up the car around 4 to head home and that's it! The girls will almost always fall asleep on the car ride home, and we usually stop at Dairy Queen for some ice cream half way through our drive. I have been doing this with my family since I was a baby, so it's always fun to do this same routine with the girls.
We went to the beach this Sunday, and my husband commented "This is all we have to take to the beach?". I have condensed our beach bag quite a bit and thought I'd share what we pack in our bag for a day at the beach! The Oregon coast's weather can be really unpredictable. For example, yesterday the temperature in Portland was 100 and at Cannon Beach it was 60.
I always pack jackets/sweatshirts and long pants just in case. We bring lots of sunscreen, hats, and extra towels. The girls will literally stay entertained for hours with a bucket and a shovel. It's the greatest! We are heading to Maui in August, and we were talking about how great it will be to kick back with some pina coladas while the girls play in the sand. Here's hoping!
