Christmas cookie decorating is one of our favorite holiday traditions! This year, we decided to decorate cookies over Thanksgiving weekend. We received so many amazing festive baking products from Martha Stewart (all available at Macy's). They were perfect for our Christmas cookie decorating day!
We decided to bake a sugar cookie (specifically for the girls to decorate) with royal icing. Ryan decided to try his hand at the Candy Cane cookies. They both turned out really well! We used recipes from Martha Stewarts Cookie Perfection book. It seriously has SO many great recipes. Cookies for every occasion! The book also shares cookie baking techniques. I was excited to perfect my royal icing through the books recipe.

For our sugar cookies, we used Martha Stewarts royal icing recipe. She suggests dipping your cookies in the icing for a clean look. This worked out really well for our cookies! I was able to dip the cookies and the girls were able to add their sprinkles. We also added some food coloring to make the icing red and green. I really want to try this with valentines heart cookies and create an ombré look. Stay tuned!
