Styling shelves (and restyling them) is one of my favorite things to do. Call me crazy, but I find it so therapeutic! We put up our pipe bracket shelves in our dining room years ago, and still love them. Check out our tutorial on how to make them here. We ended up having an extra piece of wood sitting in our garage collecting dust. I finally decided to do something with it! You know the basic towel bar that comes with your home? I know it supposed to serve a function, but I think it's just SO ugly. It had been sitting above our bathtub and I decided it was time to go! I wanted to share how I decorated our open pipe bracket bathroom shelf with you, and what I take into account when styling any shelf.

The piece of ply wood was already sanded down and I decided to paint it white for our bathroom. Jolie Paint sent us a can of their Palace White Paint, their sealing wax and one of their brushes. I thought this would be the perfect time to test it out! I loved the consistency of the paint and how easily it went on. Our wood only took 2 coats and it went on really smooth. Ryan and I also picked up some pipe brackets from The Home Depot and spray painted them dark. I found these ones online that are already painted.
This shelf had to be functional since I wanted to use it to store things for our bathroom. Our apothecary jars are filled with epsom salt and cotton balls. My favorite bath bombs are in the tray as well as my essential oils I like to put in the tub. One of my favorite tips for styling a shelf is balance.
Items of varying heights on my shelves keep them visually balanced. I love having a mirror on my open pipe bracket bathroom shelf to add a little more light since it bounces off the window in this spot. On this shelf, I put taller apothecary jars to balance out the height of the mirror. Also, sticking to somewhat of a color theme is another tip I have for styling your shelves. For this shelf, I went with gold and pops of greenery. I also love the draping greenery. I picked this one up from Michaels.
In our dining room, I decided to group like colors together since I have three shelves to style here. For example, I took my pink cake plate, pink cups, and pink bowls and grouped them in one corner. Same with my blue items, and white items. It's perfect for Spring/Summer.
