Thank you Facebook Marketplace for sponsoring this post. There’s something for everyone!
I have a serious issue with constantly wanting to redecorate our home. Especially after Christmas time and when spring hits. Anyone else?!
There's something about a fresh start that gets me excited to change things up, especially in our home. With changing things up comes clearing things out. I have been using Facebook Marketplace for several years now to buy and sell items around our home that we no longer need. The girls go through clothes like crazy, so it's nice to be able to make some money back through selling on Facebook Marketplace. I also obviously love to change things up in our home, and I love being able to sell gently used home items on Facebook Marketplace as well. Today, I am sharing our tips for selling items for your spring home refresh on Facebook Marketplace!
Spring is here and it's time to declutter! If you haven't joined Facebook Marketplace, familiarize yourself with it. It really walks you step-by-step through posting items, but make sure to review the rules before posting your items. A spring home refresh starts with a clean home which, to me, includes getting rid of things that are taking up space.

When deciding what to sell on Facebook Marketplace, try to be ahead of the season. Sometimes I will save holiday-themed items or weather appropriate clothing (like rain boots, sandals, winter coats, etc.) to post just before the holiday, or before the weather starts to change. People aren't usually going to be looking for winter coats in June, so save those to post during October or November to get the most money for your item. I try to save these in clear bins, labeled by season and size. When you start cleaning and decluttering your home for spring, do you have any spring silk flowers or light and bright artwork you want to get rid of? Now is a great time to post because chances are other people will be wanting to redecorate/refresh their homes as well.
I personally don't post items unless they are in at least good used condition. If items are broken, have scratches all over them, or lots of stains, I won't post them for sale.

For clothing, I will make sure they are washed. If they are super wrinkled, I'll even iron them to make sure they photograph better. For shoes, I will clean them up with a magic eraser and clean the soles if they are dirty. When selling household items and home decor, I will make sure they are dusted and clean. For example, if I'm selling a rug, I will spot clean it, if needed.
I was able to sell a few things on Facebook Marketplace that were in our foyer to make room for this cute new table and tray
Taking a great photo of your item definitely makes all the difference in selling quickly. I always use my cell phone to take photos for Facebook Marketplace because it's easy! You'll want to make sure your photos are taken in a light and bright setting. Sometimes, if I only have time to take photos during the evening, I'll use my photography lights, which work great! I also try to take them against a decluttered and simple background. For example, I will use my pink couch to take photos of the girls clothing. Poster boards also work great for photographing shoes and accessories. Make sure to take photos in as many angles of the item as possible. The more the better, in my opinion! Also, if the item does have a flaw, make sure to photograph it up close because people will always want to see it.
Writing a great description is the next most important thing when listing on Facebook Marketpleace. You'll want to make sure your descriptions for the item contain keywords that buyers might be searching for. I recently listed a rug for sale from the girls’ playroom. Instead of just writing "5 x 7 rug," I wrote, "Pink/multicolor woven rug with tassels, measures 5 x 7 feet and used in a girls playroom. Smoke free/pet friendly home, a few stains as shown in photographs. Purchased for $175 from [Store Name]". You'll always want to include measurements because people will ask!
When posting an item for sale on Facebook Marketplace, I really don't have buyers trying to negotiate price too often. I will post items a little higher in price than I'd like to sell it for. This helps take into account a potential negotiation.
Those are all of my tips for selling on Facebook Marketplace! It really is the easiest way to get rid of items around your home and make some money. What could be better?! Cleaning out your house and making money at the same time? Please let me know if you have any questions, and thank you so much for reading!
