It's no secret that it rains in Portland A LOT. Usually from November to April, it rains fairly steadily. If we stayed inside when it rained, we'd be spending 6 months of the year indoors! I'm pretty certain our kids would go crazy (and so would I!). Great rain gear and wellies are an absolute necessity for us. I'm really excited to share our favorites with you today from Joules, along with 5 super fun outdoor rainy day activities for toddlers!

Rainy days can be a great time to get out and have fun! Don't let rain ruin your day! We are in love with the Right as Rain line by Joules. We have several clothing items from Joules, but have recently become obsessed with their wellies! Joules has been around for over 25 years and is one of Britian's best-loved lifestyle brands. They're known for their bright and colorful clothing, shoes and accessories. Joules Right as Rain line is perfect for us here in Portland because it's all waterproof! I can't get over how darling the girls wellies are. The bows on the back of McKinlee's wellies are just too darling. You can use code HOODRAR for 20% off full priced items. Now that you have your rain gear all set, here are a few super fun outdoor rainy day activities you can do with your toddlers!
Toddlers love being messy. Being out in the rain and getting wet doesn't seem to bother either of our girls. One of our favorite activities to do when it's raining is to head to the park! We have a nature park really close to our home. It's full of marshes and lots of different bird varieties. Our girls love exploring the grounds looking for interesting bugs and birds.

Even though rain isn't the most pleasant, I'd encourage you to get outside and explore with your kids! You can set up a scavenger hunt where they can find specific items to check off. Some examples would be a specific bird, a certain color of leaf, a specific bug, etc. Get creative! On our most recent trip to the nature park, we played a scavenger hunt with birds. McKinlee has been especially into birds lately. We searched the park for as many different types of birds that we could and the girls had a blast!
Set up a mud pie making station with shallow bowls, gems, rocks, etc. Collect larger bowls of mud and let your kiddos go to town making pie. They can decorate it however they'd like!
We love using some of our old bath toys outside in the rain! They're usually the perfect toys to play in rain puddles with. Do you have old toy boats laying around? They're perfect for floating in neighborhood puddles.
Bring a few different pots, pans, bowls, etc outside and let your children listen to the different sounds the rain makes on them. They can set up their own band!
Side walk chalk is super fun to play with in the rain. The colors are a lot more vibrant when wet! It's quite a different experience than using dry side walk chalk.
lots of ducks come up to this spot, and the girls love watching them!
Do you go outside when it's raining or stay indoors? What are your favorite rainy day activities? I'd love to hear!
