Creating a serene and refreshing coastal blue bathroom design is an easy way to bring in the calming ocean vibes into your home. This design concept combines various shades of blue, reminiscent of the sea and sky, with elements that evoke the beach and coastal living. If you've been a reader for the last few years, you know I love coastal vibes throughout our home. I knew I wanted to incorporate blue throughout our new home in Arizona, and while not anywhere near the ocean I still love the coastal design elements.

When designing our powder bathroom, I wanted to use a board and batten design but I wanted a little something extra. We added a trim of pole wrap at the top of the board and batten and I love how it turned out. We did a double trim baseboard and I love how it gave the space more depth.

this is how the raw pole wrap looks before the trim work and paint

In our last homes powder bath, we did vertical shiplap in Sherwin Williams Sea Salt and loved how it looked as well! Check out that post here for more ideas.

To achieve a coastal blue bathroom design, start by selecting your preferred shade of blue. Soft, pastel blues mimic the sky and sea and are excellent for walls or large areas. These lighter shades help to brighten the space and can make small bathrooms appear larger.
We went with the same shade of blue we used in our mudroom and laundry room, Sherwin Williams Upward. Read our full review on the blue paint we used in our powder bath here!

Another great option is to tile your bathroom in a light blue shade. Or, you could also paint your cabinets a gorgeous light blue color. Another idea to consider is wallpapering your bathroom. The easiest and least expensive option would be to paint the walls in your bathroom.

I love adding rattan when designing a coastal inspired space. You can do this by adding rattan baskets, a rattan mirror (we bought this adorable scalloped rattan mirror), and bathroom accessories like this soap dispenser from Target.
If you're replacing your vanity, I love this one with cane accents. I also love adding open shelving to add decor accents especially if your vanity is on the smaller side like ours. I added some faux greenery, a rattan box, and a photo of my girls at the beach in Hawaii.
