When bought our home, it was already in the frame stage. It was set up with a 'formal' dining space but was staged as an office in the model. We decided to leave it open and not add a door to the space. It is right off our entrance, so it's something you see right as you walk in our home. We knew we wanted to make it an office space area with open shelving but it took us about a year to start the project! I am so excited to share our finished built in desk with you today!
We love how this came together and it is very functional, most importantly! Our hope for this space is that our girls will use these desks for homework and we'll have space to help them. For now, my husband and I use it to work at. It also has a ton of storage space! We added two sets of drawers for extra storage. I moved our 'junk' drawer to these drawers. It's really close to our kitchen too which was where our 'junk' drawer previously lived.
We added a middle cabinet for a place to house our printer! It's nice having it on our main floor so we can easily print things off right at our desks.
I'm really happy with the color we chose. I love the grey and brushed gold pulls. We decided to do a butcher block counter top across. I love how the color combo looks together!
This was quite the undertaking given how many shelves our built ins have. I decided on a neutral color scheme with greenery and lots of natural texture. I shopped my house for items I already had on hand. The baskets at the top help to keep clutter minimal and they're a great place to store seasonal decor.
Homegoods/TJMaxx/Marshalls are all great places to find items to style shelves. My other go-to's are Crate and Barrel, Target, and a local boutique called City Home. I think these will be constantly tweaked as I find new items too! For our books, I love to find used books at thrift stores. It's a great place to find books for styling! You can look under the cover to see what color the book is and if it goes with your style, then great! If not, you can always flip the cover around so it's white or recover them.
