I am super excited to share with you all the details on how to throw a Mad Science themed birthday party! We threw this party for my besties son Jackson who just turned 7 last week. It was such a fun and unique party idea. I hadn't heard of Mad Science until they reached out to me, and after looking into the concept I was so ready for our party!
How to Throw a Mad Science Themed Birthday Party
Mad Science has locations all over the world which is pretty cool! They do a lot more than just parties. Mad Science has after school parties, workshops, summer and vacation camps and in-school programs. The birthday party experience was so great! Once kids get to a certain age, you definitely need to have an activity for the kids to do. A Mad Science birthday party is such a great activity to center your child's birthday party around!
Reactions in Action
For our Mad Science birthday theme, we chose Reactions in Action. There are several themes to choose from including Air Blast, Mad About Blue and Young Wizards to name a few. Each theme covers different live science experiments which are hands on. They also come with a make and take that the kids can take home with them. Our Reactions in Action included a bouncy ball make and take. The kids were able to create their own bouncy balls to take home with them. The girls are still playing with theirs!
The theme we chose had several science experiments including seeing sand that is afraid of water, creating faux snow, play with energy in a plasma ball plus a lot more! All the kids were glued to our scientist. The parents couldn't believe how into it they were! I can't stress enough how hands on the entire demonstration was. The kids even got to keep their lab coats with the package we chose.
Mad Science Birthday Parties
You can hold your Mad Science birthday party at your home or at an event center. If you had a neighborhood club house or community center, that would be a great option! Some Mad Science locations across the US have local labs if you'd rather not host the party in-home. Fun add on items are another option. How about cotton candy for a treat at the end of the party? You can even add on rocket launches! Mad Science has really flexible hours and can accommodate a variety of schedules.
Parties are designed for ages 5-12 but we had 2 and 3 year olds at the party and they were even super into it! They typically last around 1 hour with extra time for additional add-ons. Each child received a goody bag as well for an extra cost. This was great as we didn't have to put these together ourselves.
Set Up and Clean Up
Our scientist arrived to the party about 30 minutes prior to set everything up. All you need to provide them with is a table for demonstrations and some water. They also cleaned everything up which was a tremendous help! The science experiments weren't messy at all and everything was well contained.
Mad Science parties range from $235 to $450 and up depending on size of the party. It was a really great value and the kids (and even adults) were super entertained. The party was also educational which was a plus!
Mad Science Party Decor
There are so many cute options for science themed party decorations, and we went with Geese & Ganders for ours. She has so many cute items in her shop! The cutest cookies are from a local mom here in Portland.

Overall, we had a great experience with Mad Science and can't wait to have a party of our own for our girls! Thanks so much as always for reading, and please let me know if you have any questions!
