I've been getting a lot of the same questions on Instagram, so I thought it was time to put together a blog post! How to hang giant Halloween spiders on your house has come up several times in the past few days. It looks like you guys are ready to decorate for Halloween! This is now our 5th year of putting giant Halloween spiders on our home, so I'd like to think I'm an expert by now!
I will share the SUPER easy way we attach giant furry spiders to our home to keep things extra spooky. To shop giant spiders, click here for several great options! If you are looking for decor details on our Halloween porch, click here!
I found a great new way to hang your giant spiders on your home. We recently moved to Arizona and have a stucco home vs. wood so I needed to come up with a new way to hang our spiders. I've been testing a few options on stucco and I'm here to say plant clips work really well! I put a spider up on the side of my house in August to see how well it would stay put and it worked! You will attach the back of your spider using a command hook, then secure a few of their legs down with the plant clips.

this is what a plant clip looks like
I also tested out using clear Gorilla Tape here to secure their legs. You can also use these to attach a few of their legs to the side of your house. Cord bundlers are another great alternative to hanging your spiders on your house especially if you have brick or stone. You will attach these to your siding, then loop the leg through.

You'll use one of the above items to attach the legs (you only need to attach 2 on each side, the other legs will stay put with the wire) and one to attach the back of the spider. The cord bundler (or plant ties/gorilla tape) will wrap around the legs and also stick to your house. The other methods work great as well if you have a wood/siding.
First of all, we need to purchase our extra large spiders. You'll want to get on this quickly because last year, they sold out. Here are a few of my favorite options as well as items needed to hang them:
I have purchased all of mine on Amazon. We have the 6 foot spiders and 4 foot spiders and they are the perfect size. I just ordered 2 more 8 foot spiders for decorating this year! Click here to shop all supplies needed to hang your giant spiders from Amazon!
When we had regular siding + battens, we used a staple gun and command hooks/zip ties to hang our spiders. You'll need a tall ladder to complete this project and a staple gun if you have this type of material on the outside of your home.
I know what you might be thinking. You want me to staple these to my house?! The holes were very minimal and we filled them and painted them as we took the spiders down last year and have had no issues!
This obviously won't work for a brick or stucco home. The other option is to hang them using the methods mentioned above. If you go this route, I'd suggest zip tying the loop to the command hook to make them extra secure. Our try our new method, cord bundlers!
we have battens on the front of our home, so they were really easy to staple into
Using command hooks worked really well for hanging them around our door. They most likely would have come off on the outside of the house due to all the rain we get here. You can also zip tie them to the command hooks for extra security if you live in a wet climate.
If you do go the command hook route, I would use these ones. They have a very prominent hook so you should easily be able to zip tie the spiders tightly to. This worked really well for us last year!
If you live in a drier climate, command hooks might be your best bet!
The staple gun is my preferred method though! We didn't lose one spider all season. You'll want to place your spider where you want him on your home.
Then, staple the legs close to the body so it holds. The legs are bendable, so you will be able to bend them how you like. Staple the legs where you want them to stay and that's it!
There really isn't anything fancy to hang giant halloween spiders on your home! It makes such a huge statement. Our neighbors still talk about our giant spiders and how they would drive by all the time just to look at them.
