When we built our pool in our new home in Arizona, I knew we had to have a large sun shelf! It's a great spot for lounging and a great place for kids to hang out. We also love that it provides a large space to step into the pool. Our dogs also love hanging out on our sun shelf!
It is also often referred to as a baja shelf too. I also knew I wanted to have lounge chairs that sat inside our pool. I didn't realize just how many options there are for in pool chairs. I'm going to be sharing the best in pool chairs that I have found while doing my pool furniture research! If you want more info on our specific pool design, check out this pool finishes blog post!

Purchase our exact chaise lounge chairs and in-pool table here!

We ended up purchasing chaise pool loungers from Ledge Lounger. The price point can be a bit shocking, but I have a friend that owns them and they've held up really well. **Update - We've now had them for 3 years and they have held up amazingly! We actually keep them in our pool year round and they still look brand new!

We purchased the Signature Chaise with the table which are designed for a shallow sun shelf. I would order directly from Ledge here so if you have any issues, they can help out directly!

They are made in the USA with high-quality resin. The material offers superior protection from the sun which was really important to us living in Arizona!

these are the exact in pool chairs we have and love!

You will have to choose in pool furniture that is made out of plastic resin. Wood or metal just won't work. I have spoken to several friends in our neighborhood that have the Ledge Lounger brand and they have held up very well in the hot Phoenix sun.

They don't fade or melt. If they can withstand the Arizona sun, they should work great anywhere else in the US! Again, we've now had them for 3 years and we are really happy with our investment! They get used a lot.

There are a few different styles of in pool chairs for your sun shelf. There are chaise lounge chairs which are great for truly laying back and relaxing. Another option are more upright chairs for sitting.

I've also found some that are in between the two. There are also table options for next to your chairs so you can set a drink on them. They are available with or without an umbrella hole. We added umbrella holes inside our sun shelf so we opted for the table without the hole.

I also really like this style of chair for a sun shelf. They look really comfortable and would be a great conversation set.

When deciding on what in pool chairs to get for your sun shelf, you'll first need to figure out the depth and width of your sun shelf. The chaise lounge chairs work well in water up to 9".

If your sun shelf is deeper, these chairs will work in water up to 15". If you have an extra deep sun shelf, these chairs will work in up to 20" of water!

What will you be using your chairs for? If you are truly looking to lay back and relax, then the chaise lounge chairs will work best. If you want to sit more upright, then these chairs will be a better bet.

We have an extra wide sun shelf, but I opted for two lounge chairs. I wanted space for the kids to play and for our dogs to hang out. I figured I can always add more if I want to. We have space for four chaise lounge chairs.
